My hands are tied, by my side, what a surprise
And I'm mute and I'm deaf with no eyes
Take my hand -- what you feel, I can't understand
And I'd ask you this, but I'd break
Somehow, I'll try to explain when you're never around
And somehow, you might understand why I'm stumbling around
And somehow, I'd want you to know and we'd watch where it goes
But somehow, I'm afraid
Afraid of all the missed misfortune
Afraid of noise that you might make
Afraid of your delayed reaction
Afraid of one more I can't take
Do you feel the same way?
Otherwise, I don't know what to say
Afraid of how I might be wrong
Afraid you'll never know
Never know who inspired the song
And away you'll go
Can someone please explain why I'm sitting here?
Writing this song in vain, when you're alone out there
I know I can take your place, 'cause I've been there before
But why can't I touch your face? 'Cause you've locked the only door between us
The key is time
The time is now
I took my time
To realize
Now there's another face in my picture of everything
Always another place in my picture of everything
Fading in just nine days from my picture of everything
I'm left with just a taste of my picture of everything
I know you cannot walk -- not without some help
See that I cannot talk? 'Cause I'm lost as well
I couldn't hope to blame you for facing the other way
Wish I could hope to tame you -- there's always another day
Your perfect smile
Has smiled at my
It took a while
And now you're running free to be
Now here we are under a broken frame
If I am who you are, guess it's just the same
Things will force things to change -- I couldn't help but grow tall
Wish I could rearrange -- it's like pushing against a wall
Sun moves over the ridge, showers the trees in gold
Crystal waterdrops are growing cold
As the ghost of the moon changes its impossible tune
I watch this world as it's reborn
And I know which way to go
Home
Voices under my skin force me to speed back up again
I'm traveling on my own
Highway under my feet moves at the speed of light
They're paving the way home
Silent speaking, invalidated photographs
Errors wreaking and violating epitaphs
You're paralyzed, but you say you care
I see it in your eyes, but in your hands it's not there
Hands are weakened, the walls of time and space are here
A faded beacon, and a one-sided frozen tear
In my head, I'm repeating your words
But you're just not doing what you said
When your eyes say 'hey'
But your mouth says nothing
It's a disparity
But somehow there'll be something
Don't say you love me, show me
And I care if you care, but you don't care
Don't say you love me, show me
And if you don't think you love me, ignore me
In a single night, I watched you transform
Only in my eyes, this cold world to warm
As I try to fight the logic as it seems to invade
I turn on your light and examine the world you've made
What you did to me caused my lone life to split
And if I sound off-key, I'm just a little distracted
As I'm breaking down as no reaction would dare
You would take my frown and toss it up in the air
What I might be watching is my favorite show
And since you haven't even come yet, I can't let you go

We finished our summer 2002 "tour" with a big tease: "Who Is Nancy?" -- unfortunately it was almost two years before we actually finished the CD. Nancy, incidentally, was the name of our favorite waitress at the restaurant across the street from David and Ben's high school.
